About Vikki

Vikki Walters
MCCJ, GradDipApSc(Psych), BApSc(Psych), JP (Qual)

I am a generalist psychologist providing psychological counselling and support to adults in my local community and beyond.

I believe therapy works best when we work together. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or how to fix it — just bring yourself, an open mind, and a willingness to explore what might help.

Where appropriate, and with your consent, I can also work collaboratively with your GP and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated care.

Appointments are available face-to-face in Cordalba or via telehealth.

Who am I, Where am I, and What Do I Do?

I am a registered psychologist in private practice in Cordalba, Queensland, offering both face-to-face and telehealth appointments.

My journey into psychology began in 1989 when, as a sole parent, I decided to pursue a career that would provide greater opportunities for my family. Psychology had always fascinated me, so I began studying externally through the University of Southern Queensland while raising my family. I graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Science, both with a major in Psychology.

My interest in understanding people and behaviour has continued throughout my career. In 2016, I returned to university and completed a Master of Criminology and Criminal Justice through Griffith University.

I spent the first 14 years of my psychology career working in the domestic and family violence sector. I later joined a regional university, initially as a Student Counsellor before moving into roles as a lecturer and Access Coordinator within a university pathways program. Much of this work involved counselling, motivation, problem-solving and helping people overcome personal, educational and life barriers.

These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and with an equally wide range of concerns.

In private practice, I work with adults experiencing issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, major life changes and the many challenges that can arise when life simply becomes overwhelming.

My Approach

My approach is practical, supportive and strongly influenced by positive psychology.

Positive psychology does not mean pretending everything is wonderful or ignoring the difficult things happening in your life. Instead, we look at both sides of the picture: what is causing difficulty, and what strengths, skills and resources you already have that can help you move forward.

Together, we can understand what is happening, develop practical strategies, strengthen resilience and coping skills, and build on what’s already working in your life.

Counselling does not have to feel intimidating or overly clinical. My aim is to provide a comfortable, down-to-earth environment where you can talk openly, feel heard and work towards changes that are meaningful to you.

“Each day brings a fresh opportunity for you to set the standard of how dedicated and committed you are to your needs, wants, goals, and relationships.”
